It's important that you know that I am not a certified animal trainer or behaviorist. My knowledge is gained from my personal experience as a former animal rescuer, director of animal welfare and serving as the Vice President of Save Maui Cats, a non-profit cat rescue that my brother runs.

e will not charge extra for our friends who need a little more help. Walking a reactive, difficult dog can be a harrowing experience - the fear of somebody getting hurt, of possibly offending someone because your dog is barking at them, fear of being judged... I know what it's like and understand where you're coming from. I've been there. And if no one has thanked you for taking on a pet that many would have given up on, 🌟THANK YOU!🏆  Thank you for the time and care you've given to an animal who otherwise, may have had no one. THANK YOU for your kind heart.  💗

Growing up in a "rescue-family" I've lived with, and rescued animals my entire life. And I'm proud to say that as a family, then I as an adult, continued to work with fear-based, aggressive animals and had the privilege to help them to find their confidence and  get them adopted into permanent, loving homes. With confidence new things are possible!

Want to now how...?

Here's my typical process:

With any new animal, I approach gently, working quietly and hoping to gain its trust. This may be the most time involved exercise we do because earning the trust of another takes time. Your pet's trust is earned, not expected.  (Give it time 😌)

(No charge for my initial visit)

Once I have gained a bit of your pet's trust,  I begin to introduce a few simple boundaries (yours) with additional opportunities for moments that build their self esteem. Maybe we play the "find the hidden toy"..."yay, good dog!" game at first; anything that helps them build their confidence. With positive reinforcement, studies have proven that many aggressive animals can learn to trust again and find that it's okay (and safe) to take up their full space in life.  Still alert perhaps, but maybe a little less afraid.

Why?

Because when someone offers you and I a little help, attention, care and cheerleading, most of us find that we have replaced old fears with new-found pockets of cheerful confidence. Who among us doesn't thrive with a little patience and grace? Like a kind person might do for a scared child (or adult.)  Dogs are no different in that sense. With confidence we all move around and behave more comfortably - because we feel better. It's a state of mind based on a million - no - a billion years of evolution, right up to the moments that led your dog to become who it is right...this...second! Actions and reactions are a choice. A choice based on who we are and were or something we picked up along the way. Let's teach your dog new ways of understanding, resulting in better balanced and less aggressive behaviors. What a beautiful and kind gift is is to help a dog navigate through life

It's truly our pleasure to help your pet to enjoy the beautiful life you've made for them and we want to support you any way we can.

Cheers to you!

I imagine that be a scared animal is like cementing the outside of our heart on 3 sides. It can function for a little bit but what a horribly tragic way to live.

I should  probably cut that last bit

A NOTE ON FREISIAN WEATHER

It's cold, it's wet, it's windy...maybe you're busy... and maybe you'd just rather stay cozy indoors, snuggling with a warm blanket. Do it! If your dog is still eager to head out, we’re excited to join in for a fun romp in the elements!

Just a side note: if we feel it's too risky for either of us to be outside, we can easily switch to indoor or covered playtime!  Mental stimulation is often a great substitute for physical exercise.
